and abuse of middle school students.

The People Safety Skills-Six Curriculum materials are specifically
designed for sixth graders. These additional lessons may be used
in conjunction with or separately from the original People Safety Skills Curriculum.
Topics include:
· "People Safety" vs. "Stranger Danger"
· Development of safety instincts
· Rules and refusal skills
· "Safe" lists
· Telephone skills
· Responding to unsolicited attention
· Bullying and sexual harassment

The People Safety Skills
Adapted Curriculum has been developed by Katy Allen in
conjunction with special education teachers from the Monroe I BOCES,
Fairport, NY.
Topics include:
· Polite behavior vs. Safe behavior
· Identifying risky situations
· Identifying and making safe choices
· Problem solving and predicting consequences
· Responding to unsolicited attention
· Asking for help
· Dealing with being lost or separated
· Telephone skills and safe lists
· Using public information signs and symbols to get help
· Identification cards
Materials include:
· Teacher's Manual (lessons are formatted according to New
York State's "learning experience" model and include assessments)
· 55 minute video of information and skill demonstration
· Audio cassette of telephone conversations
· 100 black and white line drawings
· 100+ color illustrations
· Two board games, three card games and two Bingo games
· Numerous icons that present verbal safety information in
a non-verbal format
